As a Data Engineer, you will be working closely with your team, software engineers, product, design, analytics and leadership teams to shape and execute the data strategy at Deputy. You are able to design, architect and build high performance scalable data pipelines while continually building upon Deputy’s guiding principles around data.

 

As we are a growth company, you’ll have a strong bias to innovation, growth and adapting to change.

 

You’ll be a technical mentor and people coach to a team of data engineers, unleashing and inspiring them to solve real-world problems with innovative, elegant solutions with balanced tradeoffs. 

 

What You'll Do:

• Design, create and maintain data pipelines to serve data sets for the Deputy platform and internal business teams.
• Build and own the testing framework to focus on reliability and accuracy, spotting errors before they occur
• Identify, design, and implement process improvements such as: improving database performance, automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, and maintainability among many things
• Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources within our AWS and data warehouse ecosystem.
• Work with stakeholders including the Engineering, Product, Data Analytics and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
• Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.

Desired Characteristics and Experience:

• Strong understanding of SQL.
• Good understanding and experience with various storage, data warehouse, caching technologies, queuing and their interaction within a complex system. We use Aurora MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis, Snowflake, Airflow, SQS, Kinesis.
• Understanding and exposure to cloud environments, primarily AWS.
• Good programming skills. Python and Java are highly regarded but not essential.

Highly Regarded (but Not Essential):

• Software engineering, data science, data analytics experience
• Experience in Docker
• Knowledge of building data lake or data warehouse.
• Knowledge of handling streaming data.
• Experience in Infrastructure as Code and CICD practice.
